WATER PUMP
Removal
1. Drain the cooling system and remove the radiator as described above.
2. Slacken the alternator mounting bolts, press the alternator towards the engine and detach the fan belt from the pulleys.
3. Remove the four retaining bolts and detach the cooling fan, spacer and drive pulley from the water pump hub.
4. Remove the two alternator pivot bolts and swing the alternator outwards away from the mounting flange oil the water pump.
5. Slacken the clips on the small by-pass hose between the water pump and the underside of the cylinder head, and disconnect the hose.
6. Disconnect the radiator bottom hose from the pump inlet.
7. Remove the four bolts securing the water pump to the cylinder block face and detach the pump together with its gasket.
Installation 8. Clean all old gasket material from the mating face on the cylinder block (and pump, if original is to be refitted).
9. Position a new gasket on the cylinder block face, using grease to retain it in position.
10. Locate the water pump on the engine and secure with the four retaining bolts.
11. Reconnect the by-pass hose and radiator bottom hose to the pump.
12. Assemble the drive pulley, spacer and cooling fan to the pump hub, then fit the fan belt and adjust the tension so that a total free movement of approximately 1/2 in (13 mm) is present at the midway point on its longest run.
13. Finally, install the radiator and refill the cooling system.
14. When installation is complete, run the engine up to normal operating temperature and check for leaks.
